Serendipity Travelers ... come along!

Lucinda Hathaway's Sewjourns
henceforth shall be :  "Serendipity Travelers"

I've been organizing and escorting needlwork tours since 1993. We've traveled all over the U.K. and enjoyed learning new techniques and having fun.  We've always stitched!

Now I am planning to travel and let others do the planning and organizing.  If you'd like to know where I'm going, please stay tuned to this web-page or give me a call.  Come along!  I look forward to our travels.

Swan Song
It is only fitting that Stella Edward's design illustrate this announcement.  Our trip to Cornwall was my "Swan Song".   In 1994, Stella and Adele Welsby introduced me to the movers and shakers of needlework in England through their Needlework Fair.  They have helped me on every step of this endeavor and I thank them and all of you who have traveled with me.  I am saying goodbye to Serendipity Tours but will certainly continue to travel.   Some of my long-time travelers have asked me to let them know where I'm going with the prospect of possibly joining me in my travels.  Wonderful idea!   The result is Serendipity Travelers.

Be prepared for serendipity!

Cornwall     "Swan Song"

May 19-June 1,2009
We had a fabulous trip to Cornwall.  The weather was fine.  The wildflowers were in bloom and the sea was a gorgeous color of turquoise.  Our class at Cotehele with Maureen King was great fun and we all learned some new techniques. We visited Cottage Needlecrafts and admired their designs for custom samplers: www.cottageneedlecrafts.co.uk    Take a look and order your own special sampler.   Sybilla Davis gave us a tour of Cornwall showing her lovely cross stitch kits of the area : www.sybilladavisdesigns.co.uk   Order your own memory picture of Cornwall.
Driving down the narrow hedge-row  lanes with Mike Wilson, our driver from Back Roads Tours, was an adventure.  Often the mirrors on the side of the bus tickled the hedgerows on either side of the road.  Mike backed the bus with an agility we all envied. Bobbi invited all of us for tea at her home.  It was a gorgeous finale for a wonderful trip. Take a look at the photos below.  Tap on the pictures to enlarge.  As you will see we had a great time.

A bit about past sewjourns...
Durham/York/Padfield's

This was our 4th trip to stitch with Vicki Padfield.  We love staying with her and husband Mark at their gorgeous B&B, Borrowby Mill.  Vicki is an accomplished teacher and is willing to have all 6 students working on different projects and techniques.  We all learn from each other.  Our touring included the beatuiful towns of York and Durham.  There were special tours of the embroidery at Durham Cathedral and York Minster.  In Durham we enjoyed visiting Tracy Franklin's Studio.  Fabulous work!  With these tours we continue the tradition and art of needlework, included is a good time.  Google  Borrowby Mill to find  the new web page for the B&B where the needlework classes are given.  Take a look!

Castello di Porciano
There is a magic castle 45 miles northeast of Florence.  It's name, Castello di Porciano.  The castle is owned by Martha Specht Corsi, daughter of an American and an Italian Countess.  You can read the story of the Castle if you "google" the name.  I have been lucky to go there three times :  two needlework tours and this time with just a small group of friends. We took a train to Arezzo to the antique market, painted in the mornings, visited Cortona, listened to Martha's stories, had a fabulous dinner at an old Mill, ate lots of gelatto and enjoyed Tuscan wine.   It is a special place and I'd love to return again and again.  We need  only 6 people.   Let me know if you'd be interested in travel to this special place.
